One estate, two voices
Celler Laurona was founded in 1999 by René Barbier and Christopher Cannan. I joined the estate in 2014 and have run it since 2018. The winery is in Falset; our vineyards are in La Figuera, Darmós and other villages of the Montsant.
- 1999
The beginning
René Barbier and Christopher Cannan founded Celler Laurona in 1999, before the Montsant appellation was created in 2001. The estate works old Grenache and Cariñena vines in several villages, including La Figuera on the high slopes.
- 2002
Recognition
The estate was three years old when Wine Spectator placed Laurona 2000 in its worldwide Top 100. The Montsant was still little known internationally.
- 2014
La Figuera
La Figuera was the first village I came to. Sixty inhabitants, an average age of sixty, and vines that climb to the highest points of the appellation. It was there that I fell in love with this land, and learnt alongside René. It was there that Pythagora, my first wine, was born. I still call it my first baby.
- 2018
The keys
René entrusts me with running the estate. I keep the old vines and the vintages laid down in the cellar. I add my own voice with Galilea by Fiona.
- Today
Two collections
Celler Laurona carries on the estate’s wines. With Galilea by Fiona, I make Pythagora in La Figuera, Nautilea in Maimó near Darmós, and L’Irrésistible, a saignée rosé.

Only a few kilometres separate these vineyards. Yet a few hundred metres of altitude change the Grenache completely.

The vineyard first. Plots of sixty- to eighty-year-old vines, tended with care to the rhythm of the vine and the vintage.
Then the cellar. Small vats, long macerations, no recipe. Each vintage dictates its own method.
And finally, patience. Our wines spend years in bottle, in our cellar, before they are released. They decide when.

Le Miroir du Temps
Heritage · blending · ageing · library
The house wines, born of old vines in several villages of the Montsant. Blends made to last, aged in barrel and then kept for years in our cellar: Mític, Cronos, Plini, Blanc.
For those who love to see what time does to wine.

My very own wines. Pythagora comes from the high slopes of La Figuera; Nautilea from Maimó, near Darmós, at 120 m. L’Irrésistible is a saignée rosé aged in acacia barrels.
For those who love to understand a wine through the place it comes from.
